Building Language for Sentence Construction
Based on Colourful Semantics and Key Language Strategies
These sentence-building cards are designed to support children in developing their oral and written language using the Colourful Semantics approach. Each card helps children break down sentences into meaningful parts — Who? What doing? What? Where? When? — building grammatical structure and vocabulary in a visual, structured way.
How to Use:
-
Use each card to help construct full sentences in a step-by-step, visual format.
 -
Choose from six themed sets, featuring Widgit symbols, icons, and simple visuals to match different learning needs and contexts.
 -
Sets 1 to 8: Choose your focus area and print accordingly.
 -
Set 7: Designed for the reverse side of each card, providing sentence cues or prompts.
 -
Set 9: Laminated version for write-on/wipe-off activities – ideal for reusable practice.

Format and Practical Use:
All resources are provided in .png format, making them easy to:
-
Drop into Microsoft Word for custom layout or resizing.
 -
Insert into IWB presentations (Interactive Whiteboards) to model sentence-building during whole-class or small group instruction.
